Back home and camping again!

We went out wilderness camping on the May Long Weekend with family and friends. We had two great days of sun and the rest of the time it was raining, either lightly during the day or pouring during the night. It was  fun for everybody, even though it was wet. It was good to see our family and friends after being gone over the winter. Hope you enjoy the pictures!

The sun is finally out in Texas!!

Well, the sun has finally decided to bless us with some warmth. This is a great thing after the cold blasts from the North we have endured during our winter in Texas. Of course, we came here believing that our bones would be warmed and our joints would be more mobile. Finally this is beginning to happen. Our stay at Lake Texana State Park has been lovely, we didn't have to even turn on our furnace and our windows have been open 24 hours a day. We have even had to run the fans to keep it cooler. It has been in the high +20c's to the low +30c's, and our tans are starting to reappear. We were beginning to think that we would be coming home white this year!! It seems really strange that there are alligators here, but they are well fed and happy, so there is no worries of being taken over by them as long as one stays a healthy distance away. We also saw our first snake on our way in to the campground. It was lying across the road, sunning itself after all the cold weather. Unfortunately we did not get a picture of it as my camera was in the 5th wheel. I now travel with my camera in the truck just in case there is something of interest around. Anyway, we were told that this snake, measuring approximately 3 1/2 feet, was a Diamond Back Water Snake of the non-venomus type. Anyway, hope you enjoy the scrapbook of our stay and what we have seen.

Texas Winter

Hello Friends....

Here we are into the month of February already and still not many photo's from us. We are in Texas at the same State Park we stayed in when we were in this part of the world 2 years ago. That is one of the main reason for no pictures, as we really haven't seen anything new are exciting to post yet.

We are in the midst of a Texas Winter at present. The temperatures outside are quite cool for this part of the country and they remind me of when we go camping in the late Fall and early Spring in Alberta. Last night the mercury dropped to 28F which would be in the -5C range I think. We had to leave our water running all night at a slow drip so our pipes didn't freeze up. We never thought that we would be having this kind of weather here. Apparently we are in for more of the same tonight and tomorrow night with a chance of snow on Thursday. At least it will only be a few inches at best and will not need to be shoveled. I can't say that we are missing the snow too much and are very glad that we are not having to deal with what has been left on our front yard at home! Better to leave that to the younger members of the family!!

Last month got news from the home front that we are going to be grandparents again (#15 is on the way)! A very exciting bit of news for us and we are thrilled. The newest member of the Mearns clan is arriving compliments of Holt and Savanna, who are getting married in July. We are hoping that maybe this newest member might be a little boy for Poppa!! Time will tell.

Hope that you are all keeping warm and happy! Would love to hear from you via email any time!
