Palo Dura Canyon State Park TX

Yesterday we went to visit the Palo Dura Canyon State Park. It was really interesting...the Texans call it the Grande Canyon of Texas. The road took us down onto the canyon floor and we were able to drive around the loop of the campgrounds and picnic areas. There were several flash flood areas throughout the park. At several of these spots the water had actually risen over the road, at one point we had to drive through 1 foot of water. Of course this was no problem in the Dodge. There were alot of prickly pear cactus growing everywhere. We also came across a flock of wild turkey in one of the camping areas! The earth in the canyon was this amazing red color on the bottom and layered up in several different colors. Apparently the different colors showed the different eras. The age of the earth went from 20,000,000 years old (bottom layer) up to present day. It's really quite interesting to me, but then I have always been interested in geology! Bet you didn't know that bit of trivia. Hope you enjoy the pictures.
